Parks and Trail Projects/Construction
Inver Grove Heights Parks and Recreation oversees and maintains 27 parks covering 677 acres and Inver Wood Golf Course with 239 acres. We strive to keep our parks clean and safe for our community and visitors to enjoy. Our goal is to make it possible for everyone including persons of all abilities and disabilities to take advantage of the park system and their offerings. We also strive to improve and grow our parks and their amenities to meet the needs of our community. Below is a list of current projects happening in your parks.
Heritage Village Park – Inclusive Playground, Shelter, and Restrooms
The City of Inver Grove Heights is planning for the construction of an inclusive playground, shelter, and restroom facility for 2020 if funding can be secured.

Northwest Area Park Planning
The City is actively looking to purchase 5-10 acres of land for a park south of 70th and west of Hwy 3. More information will be made available as progress is made toward land acquisition.
North & South Valley Parks Master Plan
The City is working to update the Master Plan for North and South Valley Parks. There will be an open house on Wednesday, January 22nd from 5:30pm – 7:00pm in Community Room 1 at the Veterans Memorial Community Center to collect public feedback.
Salem Hills Tennis and Basketball Court Project
The basketball and tennis courts at Salem Hills park will be reconstructed in 2020. A new single tennis court, full sized basketball court and two pickleball courts will be open and ready for play in August/September of 2020.
Hwy 52 Trail
During the summer of 2020, a portion of the Hwy 52 trail between 65th and McGroarty Park will be used as a temporary road access to the Bacon/62nd St E neighborhood during the neighborhood roadway reconstruction project.
Veterans Memorial Greenway (formerly the Rich Valley Regional Greenway)
Dakota County is planning for a Regional Greenway which will be a County trail project. The Regional Greenway Master Plan has not yet been adopted but residents can log the Dakota County project website to learn more and comment.
Mendota Lebanon Regional Greenway
Dakota County is planning for a Mendota Lebanon Regional Greenway which will be a County trail project. The Mendota Lebanon Regional Greenway Master Plan has been adopted and can be viewed here.
Comprehensive Park Plan and Development Guide Update
The City will be taking the entire year of 2020 to update the Comprehensive Park Plan and Development Guide. The current plan was adopted in 2009 and needs to be updated to reflect the current needs and wants of the community. Check back often for updated information on the process to ways to get involved.
